The 7th Saltsjöbaden Clean Air Workshop 2023

The Saltsjöbaden workshops are directed towards policymakers, scientists, and stakeholders supporting international air pollution awareness and control.

An international science and policy workshop

Over the years, the Saltsjöbaden workshops have formed a forum for informal discussions on current air pollution issues, and the outcomes from these have contributed to setting the agenda for the future. The seventh meeting, which was held in March 2023 discussed urgent issues and put forward a number of recommendations for global, regional and national collaboration

Back-to-back with Saltsjöbaden VII, the first meeting of the Forum for International Cooperation on Air Pollution (FICAP) was held. This forum aims to encourage international exchange and mutual learning, and to facilitate the sharing of science, technical and policy experience regarding air pollution. The outcome from the FICAP forum is also included in the Saltsjöbaden report.

About the workshop

An issue of increasing concern is the hemispheric scale of air pollution and transport of pollutants into areas not normally considered under the Convention, in particular the Arctic.

On this topic, several initiatives are taken by international organisations such as AMAP, CLRTAP and CCAC. The ratification and implementation of the CLRTAP Protocols in the EECCA countries are issues that have been on the agenda for the last 10-15 years but still needs further consideration.
